GET TO KNOW ME

ADVOCATE | LEADER | VISIONARY

For the majority of junior high and high school, I planned on pursuing and was preparing myself for a career in Engineering.  That all changed in the fall of my senior year when I took a service trip to the Philippines.

During this trip, I saw the stark discrepancy between my comfortable Global North life and the lives of those who don't have access to the same education and resources as me. My heart was broken for the injustices of this world and systems that disempower.

So I returned to the United States, changed my career path, and decided to devote my life to addressing the needs of the world's most vulnerable and to working to end poverty.

PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT:

I will leverage my gifts in administration, compassion, and leadership for the service of others: to bring good news to the poor, to bind up the broken hearted, and to proclaim liberty to the captives.

CAREER ASPIRATIONS

My career aspirations have changed dramatically throughout my life. I have had a desire to teach, to be a lawyer, to be an engineer, and to be a business executive. In many ways, I could see myself thriving in any of these fields. I have been told that I have a nurturing presence that would bode well for teaching; I am passionate about politics and law; I have an interest in practically meeting human need; and I am a natural-born leader.

My ambition is to marry all of these skills together to pursue a career in International and Community Development. I strive to be a compassionate leader known for creating innovative, community-driven solutions that address immediate humanitarian needs. I desire to help design and manage projects that empower those on the outskirts of society. Beyond this, I commit to addressing overarching systems of injustice and corruption in order to bring justice to the oppressed, care for the marginalized, and to restore hope to the nations for generations to come. I am devoted to being a lifelong learner who is marked with humility and is dedicated to mobilizing others to care for their neighbors, near and far.

FAMILY

For 18 years of my life, I lived in a small farm town in Western Ohio with a population of 800 people. I grew up knowing everyone and being known by everyone in my community. Because of my upbringing, I have a deep sense of the value of home, family, and caring for one's community.

Regardless of the miles that separate us, my family means the world to me. I'm the youngest of four children; all of my siblings have gone on to get married and start families of their own. So I get to enjoy a growing family, and be an aunt to nine adorable nieces and nephews!

HOBBIES

Many of the hobbies I had growing up have continued into my adult life. I played flute for eight years and still love to create music (although now mostly on the guitar and vocally).

I also enjoy staying active by working out and playing sports like volleyball and basketball. Since moving to California, I've been able to try new activities like hiking and surfing.

In my free time I love to read (i.e. fiction, memoirs, historical nonfiction, anything really!). This year, I've been practicing my cooking and baking skills - and I've come to love preparing food for myself and friends to enjoy.

TRAVEL

I have always loved traveling and have had the opportunity to visit nearly 20 countries: from my first international trip to Mexico, to a tour of the United Kingdom, to my service trip to the Philippines, to my time in Spain - I have been privileged to see so many beautiful places and meet people from all over the world.

From a very young age, I've had a fascination with and love of culture. Each time I step into a new culture, my worldview grows and my character is developed. It's, in large part, what has shaped me into the independent, curious, and adventurous woman I am today.

GOALS

I am a task oriented person who is driven by achieving my goals. Since I'll soon be achieving one of my lifelong goals (graduating from college), I recently reassessed my goals and what I'd like to achieve in the next 5-10 years of my life.

Here's what I'm looking forward to:

  • Run a 1/2 marathon

  • Pay off my student loan debt before I turn 30

  • Attend graduate school

  • Return to Barcelona in 2026 to see La Sagrada Familia completed

  • Walk The Camino de Santiago
